Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education Thanks to Johanna Disorda who collects, counts and submits both Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup labels. You can help Leicester Central School just by clipping these things and sending them in with your child. We currently have earned $55 for the Student Activities Fund. We would love to reach $200 and we can with your help! Campbell’s labels earn us points to purchase playground equipment, books, classroom materials, etc. As of today, we have earned 1900 points—keep sending in those labels!
Neat Repeats Neat Repeats, a consignment shop located in Middlebury on Bakery Lane, has already raised $24.50 for Leicester School. When you donate unwanted items at Neat Repeats and designate the item for Leicester Central School, Neat Repeats will send us a portion of the sale price. This is a great opportunity to help the school AND clean out your closets.
Green Project Leicester Central School is helping the environment while earning cash for the Student Activities Fund. You can help by bringing used ink & laser cartridges and old/broken cell phones to Renee. These items are sent to the Green School Project and we earn cash for each item we send for recycling. |

Wednesday, January 27, grades 5 and 6 visited the Vermont State House and the Vermont Historical Society Museum in Montpelier. We met with our State Representative, Willem Jewett, and had a tour of both chambers. At the historical society we went through 400 years of Vermont history with special emphasis on the Civil War. Thank you to Greg Randall, Regina Houle, and Heather McDonough for driving. Students loved the golden dome! |

Fun Friday # 2 (Jan. 22) was a smashing success! The theme of the week was Africa. Meredith Clark, a recent Peace Corp volunteer, shared her experiences, stories, and pictures from Africa. The cafeteria was full of “hands-on” art activities. Mrs. Randall helped the children prepare a delicious banana dessert. Hannah Sessions led the children in cross-country skiing. Everyone left with a smile. It is not too late to sign up!! We hope all interested children will join us for a special supper and slide show of the past 4 Friday’s on February 5th. More information to come. |

Leicester Central School policy expects students to be in school and on time everyday unless ill or excused in advance by the school principal. Time lost in class is difficult, if not impossible, to make up and impacts instruction for the entire class. In the past, Leicester administration collaborated with the Rutland Truancy Project. However, this Project is no longer in existence, so next week we are putting into place procedures consistent with the Project and in line with our Student Attendance Regulations. (See page 5 in your Student-Parent Handbook.) All parents whose child has more than 5 unexcused absences will receive a certified letter with a list of documented absences. Those parents whose students have excessive absences will be invited to a Truancy Intervention Meeting. |

The children in third and fourth grade are busily rolling pennies every morning. As of this morning they had rolled around $50 and the jug is still more than half full! GREAT JOB, EVERYONE! |

Fun Fridays is off and running! We had a great turnout with a lot of enthusiasm. Over 30 students signed up! Students participated in many indoor and outdoor activities for our Winter Carnival themed afternoon. Big thanks go out to Mr. and Mrs. Cole for supplying and maintaining the bonfire and to Ellie Holsman for teaching our students to knit. Thank you to the staff of Leicester Central School for going the extra mile and making this a success. We are looking forward to the next three weeks! |
